Was there a strategy that the spaniards used to conquered the Aztecs?
Cortes landed in Mexico with 30-40 Europeans. He then burned his ships, so his men would have no choice but to fight, there would be no retreat. The Spaniards were armed with matchlock muskets, crossbows, and steel weapons and armor. They also had some horses, which no one in Mexico had previously ever seen. The odds against them were tremendous- The Aztec Empire was made up of millions. Initially, Aztec Emperor Montezuma welcomed Cortes as a guest, unsure of his motives. Cortes learned that there were many tribes in the valley of Mexico who had been subjugated by the Aztecs. These tribes hated living under the rule of the expansionist Aztecs, and allied themselves with Cortes. With thousands of native warriors and local guides, Cortes had the manpower to supplement the technical superiority of his weapons and armor.
