Dried water spots on the ceiling of a corridor?

I am buying a place and there are dried water spots on the ceiling of a corridor. the spots have formed a circle a fire alarm and a light bulb, which are on that ceiling. That ceiling is below a bathroom. But everything in that bathroom is perfectly caulked up. Any ideas what could be wrong?
