Is America the only developed country to freak out at the sound of 'Socialism'?

If people don't like socialism then they must not like having a postman, police officer, or fireman around. I guess they want to pay for police protection or to put out fires on a per-fee basis. People are idiots. It's like the Red Scare of the 50's - a bunch of mostly ignorant people got all worked up over nothing.
